Shakyamuni Buddha | Spiritual Buddhist gift for meditation
SKU: TP0047
Shakyamuni Buddha is a name given to Gautama Buddha, who lived from 566 to 485 BCE in central north India. The word Shakyamuni means the sage of the Shakyas, the latter being the name of Buddha's clan, which ruled over the Republic of Kapilavastu. According to tradition, Shakyamuni traveled widely throughout the Indian subcontinent sharing his enlightened wisdom, promoting peace, and teaching people how to unleash the great potential of their lives. His compassionate intention was to enable all people to attain the same awakened state of life that he had attained.
A Portrait of Enlightenment
At the heart of this Thangka is the moment of Buddha Shakyamuni's enlightenment, masterfully captured as he invokes the earth to witness his liberation. The iconic Bhumisparshana Mudra, with fingers of the right hand touching the earth, symbolizes his unshakable connection to the world and the grounding of his insights into the nature of reality. This pivotal moment is depicted against a backdrop that brings to life the ancient prophecy of his dual destiny – to become either a great king or the enlightened Buddha of his age. Choosing the path of spiritual awakening, Siddhartha's rigorous journey and his profound enlightenment at the age of 35 are beautifully encapsulated in this artwork.
